Illustration & Process

Process

My process always begins with curating images to inspire the design. Once I feel that I have a sense of the energy I want to capture, I move to sketching out the composition and getting key elements in. Then I take those to either Procreate or Illustrator and start laying down lines. I allow things to shift organically so the idea can develop naturally.

Identity Inspiration: One of Us

I interpreted this through the lens of the microscopic-organisms: too small to be seen individually, but together they form entire ecosystems. The illustrations imagine a cast of soft, strange creatures just existing alongside each other. No hierarchy, no agenda, just weird little guys cohabitating in harmony.

The palette leans warm and slightly alien, and the typographic system is meant to feel handmade.

Mood board

I learned from this mood board that I wanted the illustration to convey a colony of intertwined elements that are individual but collectively stronger.

Character design

I started playing with the character design. I wanted to capture an organic flow with the characters. I ultimately shifted away from this because the energy felt more like a haunting cult and less like a loving community.

Color

Once I landed on a flow and layout, I began playing with the color palette. I felt these didn’t feel as connected as the blue-on-blue color palette. In the versions below, one element always felt heavier than the other, which derailed the concept of unity.

Illustrations

All images were handdrawn on Procreate or created on Adobe Illustrator.

Digital Paintings

Procreate is my playground. These digital paintings span realism, loose gestural work, and fully experimental blind contour portraits, which is a deliberate practice in staying fluent across styles.

Photography

I live for shooting cool moments. I shoot on my iPhone 99% of the time, because it allows me to capture the moment while simultaneously being submerged in it. Lately, I’ve been very interested in portraits. I love to catch my friends glowing in the moment.

I entered the IPPA awards in 2019 and won 3rd place in a worldwide photography competition.
